Moreover, the Cardigan and the Pembroke are the two breeds of Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Further, Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who feeds four at all times, popularized the Pembroke. Also, this dog is used in movies and television. It was approved by the American Kennel Club in 1934, and According to the AKC, it is presently ranked No. 13 among the most popular breeds. In Welsh, “corgi” only refers to that particular dog breed.

The Welsh word for “dog” is “Ci” or, if quietly altered, “Gi,” resulting in the name Corgi. The AKC granted recognition to the Pembroke a year before the Cardigan, acknowledging the Pembroke in 1934 and the Cardigan in 1935.  People employed Corgis as farm guards, vermin hunters, and livestock haulers.  They did not only herd cattle; they drove cattle by barking and nibbling at the animals’ heels.
